New York Tree Trust Tree Guard Program

Screen Shot 2014-04-02 at 12.52.07 AM

We are undertaking efforts to get the city to provide tree guards for the remaining tree beds on our block that do not have them. But in the meantime, residents are able to have one installed through a donation program run by the New York Tree Trust. You basically look through the styles they offer, and sizes then make the requested donation, and they will handle everything. It seems that this is cheaper than privately going elsewhere to have this work done, and certainly quicker than waiting for the city to approve the expense.

You can read more about the plan here: http://stewardship.nycparks.org/library/tree_guard.php

And here is a list of the treeguards they offer, and the prices: http://www.milliontreesnyc.org/downloads/pdf/tree_guard_donation_table_2014.pdf

Thanks to Randall for bringing this info to the block association’s attention!

2012 Making Strides of Brooklyn NY

There will be an American Cancer Society event to raise money for breast cancer research on Sunday October, 21st in Prospect Park at 9:00 am. “2012 Making Strides in Brooklyn”. You can sign up or donate from this link: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?fr_id=47318

From the site:

Your reason for walking in the American Cancer Society Making Strides walk is as unique and special as the story that motivates you. More than likely, you’ve been affected by breast cancer in some way, and our Making Strides walk empowers you to make a difference and fight back. This is your opportunity to honor breast cancer survivors, remember those we have lost to this disease, and raise funds and awareness to help end it forever.

Making Strides events are a celebration of survivorship – an occasion to express hope and our shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love.

Help for our neighbor Mia’s dog

Our neighbor was hospitalized and suddenly several of us needed to care for his dog, Suna.  When we realized Suna would need more long-term care, the Brooklyn Animal Foster Network (http://www.brooklynanimalfosternetwork.org) came to the rescue and found Suna a wonderful foster home.

Then, she went to the vet.  We had no idea that her medical issues were so extensive, and her vet bill is really high.

We’d like to raise funds to pay for her vet, and also raise money for food and a few supplies.  Any assistance provided will really help!

Visit the fundraising page here: http://www.indiegogo.com/Suna

Thank you so much!

Judith and neighbors,

Brooklyn, NY

P.S.  Check in the updates section for more details about Suna’s needs!  Thank you so much!
